I
wrote this page only to alleviate some of the confusion behind
Budocentral. Budocentral is neither a commercial dojo venture nor my
method of earning an income (I happily work for a local newspaper in the
Information Technology Department). In fact, all programs I run are
operated as non-profit, no one gets paid, not even my-self. If the
website has the appearance of a big nation wide commercial dojo…. then
great, I have presented it well.
I created Budocentral.com to
house and reflect my own personal interests and passions in the martial
arts. The main focus is to hold a presence in the global martial arts
community and house information for my many fantastic students, both
present and past and also for prospective students in Karate-do Shotokai
and Kyushu-Ryu Ju-Jitsu and the many other programs I have created and
run.
It is neither my intention nor my desire to portray myself
or these clubs as the meanest, badest and toughest in the martial arts
community. It is easy to create ego and lose ones way while traveling
along the martial arts road. It is my belief that self-defence and
technique are secondary priorities. First and foremost the martial arts
is about becoming a better and more confident human being, increasing
ones awareness, mental attitude, physical health, fitness and over all
wellness.
At present I train and teach a minimum of 16 hours a
week, hold down a 40 hour a week job, balance my family, run various
seminars and try to enjoy photography, the outdoors and maintain my
clubs and this website. Needless to say, I watch very little TV and I
sleep very little. Thankfully my wife Johanne is just as
obsessed and passionate with the martial arts. She is a big part of the
success and driving force of all my programs.
After the tragic
death of my Ju-Jitsu Grandmaster Jacques Dionne, I stayed the course,
vowing to remain teaching my friends life’s work while others abandoned
the system in pursuit of personal gains and quick gradings. With the
help of Master Dionne’s family and especially his daughter Robin, we
have created a foundation and structure in his memory and his system
will live on through the students that continue to love and honour him.
There's a lot of ego and negativity in the martial arts, its easier
to criticize then create. The true martial artist is creative, positive,
constantly striving to improve. I hope you will join us in enjoying the
wonderful world of martial arts.
